A Physician Shaped by Sport, Injury, and a Better Way
"I wholeheartedly believe that we as a society have forgotten how good we can truly feel."
Dr. Bhandari grew up in Calgary, Alberta as a multi-sport athlete competing in soccer, track and field, and nationally in martial arts. As a young athlete and a coach, guiding himself through a series of sports injuries overtime gave him a unique perspective on pain and how it is also influenced by diet, lifestyle, sleep, and recovery. This journey led him to obtain his bachelor's degree in Exercise and Health Physiology at the University of Calgary before pursuing a career in Naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University in Washington. He simultaneously pursued a Master of Science in Ayurvedic Medicine, a 5,000-year-old medical system with sophisticated frameworks for understanding constitution, inflammation, and chronic disease that complement modern regenerative science.
Today, Dr. Bhandari practices at Sagemed in Bellevue, Washington, where he has built a reputation as a leading regenerative orthopedic specialist. His patients often find him when they have either exhausted the conventional options or are actively hoping to avoid surgery, another steroid injection, or long-term medication for pain management. These patients are looking for a physician who takes a different approach entirely. His core treatments — including Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and adipose-derived stem cell therapy — address the structural and biological reasons pain persists.
Dr. Bhandari has a passion for learning and is continuously strengthening the foundation for his clinical thinking through supplemental courses and seminars. In addition to patient care, Dr. Bhandari is an active educator in the Naturopathic medical community, having taught courses in musculoskeletal assessment, injection therapies, and sports medicine, to students and fellow practitioners. Outside of his passion for medicine, Dr. Bhandari continues to pursue his love for sports by playing soccer and hockey. He also enjoys traveling with his wife in his free time.

The Philosophy Behind the Practice
Conventional orthopedics fixates on "what is the diagnosis?" While useful, the questioning is incomplete. A diagnosis tells you what to call a problem, but it does not tell you why the body produced it, what underlying dysfunction is sustaining it, or what would need to change for the body to resolve it. Often, it doesn't fully encompass all of the symptoms present.
Dr. Bhandari's clinical philosophy starts with a different question, leading to a fundamentally different line of investigation and, ultimately, a unique approach to treatment.
The body has an innate healing intelligence. When it fails to resolve an injury, or when degeneration outpaces repair, or when injuries add up, the environment of the local tissue – or the greater body – becomes disrupted. The tissue alone is not the problem. The lack of conditions for healing is the problem. If you change those conditions, the healing follows.
The Central Clinical Question
"What Needs
to Be Healed?"
Not "what is the diagnosis?" Rather, what specific tissue, system, or imbalance is preventing the patient's body from doing what it is designed to do. This question guides every assessment, every treatment plan, and every follow-up conversation in Dr. Bhandari's practice.
How Dr. Bhandari Approaches Your Care
Treat the Root Cause
Symptoms are clues, not problems. A knee that hurts may be a knee joint problem, a ligament laxity issue, a chronic nerve entrapment, a biomechanical dysfunction involving hip or ankle mobility, or a systemic inflammatory pattern. Dr. Bhandari's assessments are designed to find the actual pain generator before choosing a treatment, so that treatment resolves the problem rather than simply shutting off the signal that something is wrong.
First Do No Harm
As every physician strives for, Dr. Bhandari is particular about keeping his treatments limited to the lowest force necessary, avoiding unnecessary harm through excessive medical interventions. Every treatment Dr. Bhandari recommends has a basis in research and clinical experience, and is guided by what fits the patient's unique situation best. This could be anything from a diet change to recommending surgery.
Individualized Protocols
No two patients receive the same treatment plan, even for the same diagnosis. Injection solutions and strengths (such as PRP concentration), tissue targets, adjunctive therapies, and rehabilitation protocols are all customized to the individual based on labs, imaging, history, and goals. The outcome is a protocol built for your unique scenario, not a template built for your diagnosis.
Doctor as Teacher
Healing is a journey that is dictated by the patient undertaking it, not by the doctor. The decision to undergo a treatment is based on many factors and that decision is made by the patient. Dr. Bhandari endeavors to educate his patients to the best of his ability, acting as a guide while the patient drives the decision.
The Body Heals If You Create the Conditions
Regenerative medicine allows the body to resume what it wants to do: heal. Platelet-rich plasma, adipose-derived cellular therapies, and prolotherapy all work because they create a biological environment where the body's own repair processes can function. Dr. Bhandari's role is to remove obstacles to healing: optimize the biology, target the right tissue, and let the body do what it is designed to do.
The Foundations of Health Are Not Optional
Regenerative injection therapies are powerful tools. But they function within a biological context shaped by what you eat, how you sleep, how you move, your hormone balance, your toxic burden, and the quality of your relationships and mental health. Dr. Bhandari addresses all of it, because ignoring the foundations while chasing the interventions produces incomplete results. The best outcome from any regenerative procedure comes when the underlying terrain it lands on is optimized to support healing.
